Dental Crowns

When a tooth is severely decayed and can no longer be restored with a filling, a crown is placed to save the tooth structure.

A crown is a 'cap' that encases the tooth in a protective material to improve the strength and the appearance of the tooth.

It is custom-made in a laboratory, and bonded or cemented to the tooth.

You may need a crown if you have a tooth with a root canal treatment, a large restoration or a broken tooth.

What material is a crown made of?

  • All-metal, such as a full gold crown.
  • Porcelain-fused-to-metal.
  • All-porcelain.

Dr. Ana Focsaneanu will suggest the type of crown material that fits the aesthetic and longevity of the tooth and the whether the tooth is anterior or posterior.
